Adiradh Energy offers revolutionary new TDS NT is a unique, all-in-one cable testing and diagnosis system. It offers two well-proven wave forms – Very Low Frequency Cosine Rectangular (VLF CR) for withstand testing and Damped AC voltage (DAC) for non-destructive Partial Discharge diagnosis. These can be used to test cables to international standards such as the IEEE 400.3 and IEC 60502-2. The TDS can also be used for DC tests and sheath tests to the IEC 60229 standard. When paired with a step voltage sensor, it can even be used for precise pinpointing of sheath faults.The DAC voltage has proven to be the ideal voltage waveform for a non-destructive PD diagnosis.With the 50 Hz Slope Technology for the first time, a withstand test with VLF cosine-rectangular voltage (VLF CR) and PD diagnosis with damped alternating voltage (DAC) is combined in one unit.The important fact here is that the PD measurement data, gained with the VLF CR or with the DAC test voltage, can be compared directly with the 50 / 60 Hz network voltage.TDS NT  system have two models   TDS NT 40  with PD Detector PDS 60 and TDS NT 60 with PD Detector   PDS 60.

In addition to the proven VLF and DAC test voltage the TDS can also be used for DC tests and sheath tests in compliance with IEC 60229.It can be used to test cables according to the international standards (e.g. IEC 60502-2 and IEEE 400.2) with VLF-CR. In addition, a PD diagnosis using the new 50 Hz Slope Technology, can be performed simultaneously with the help of the PD detector. Alternatively, the TDS NT can also be used for PD diagnosis with the proven damped AC voltage (DAC).

PDS 60 has become possible to immediately locate faults in underground cables during the actual PD measurement.PD detector software will support the user with the data evaluation by means of so called Phase Resolved Partial Discharge (PRPD) patterns. With help from these PRPD patterns the user is able to distinct between different types of PD defects, such as corona or internal PD. This is of major importance for partial discharges located at terminations; corona discharges are not  problematic, where-as internal PD would.

Adiradh energy offers TDM 45 series which  is a revolutionary breakthrough in testing and diagnosis of MV cables. The modular concept allows the engineer to individually set-up the unit based on the type of job that needs to be executed. If e.g. withstand testing on short cable lengths need to be performed then only one module is needed. When part of the task is also to perform a partial discharge diagnosis then an additional module is needed.

TDM45 have three modules depending on user application  has to select

  • VLF Sinus 45 kV for standard compliant withstand testing of short cables and dielectric loss measurements.
  • Boost module:VLF Booster 40 kV for standard compliant withstand testing of long cables up to 20 km length at maximum test voltage and 0.1 Hz test frequency.
  • Partial discharge module: PDS 60 for partial discharge (PD) diagnosis, can either be used with the base module only, or also in conjunction with the boost module to perform PD measurements at Damped AC voltages or 50/60 Hz Slope.

Test and diagnostic system for  EHV cables – HV DAC Series

Adiradh Energy offers HV DAC series which is designed for after-laying testing on newly installed HV-cables as part of quality control, and for condition assessment on repaired or service-aged HV-cables.The key benefit of this test set is the compactness versus testable capacity. With this transportable unit, cables with a length up to 32 km can be tested. In addition set-up within a substation is also no problem; no more roadblocks needed compared to using resonance test sets on large trucks. As of its portability and short set-up time it is possible to quickly respond on changing weather conditions. Because of its low weight there are no special requirements needed for road conditions. Air transport is also no problem, keeping transport times to a minimum and maximising the efficiency in use of the system.

Today’s  practices for commissioning testing on EHV cables

HV DAC testing with PD-measurement:The HV DAC testing has, based on its advantages, won on popularity. The frequency of the test voltage is depending on the cable length between 20 and 300Hz.All available DAC test systems are equipped with a PD Detector.

Cable Sheath Integrity mandatory Testing Test  while commissioning of  EHV Cables

To determine the healthiness of Cable Sheath after installation.  Method: Application of 10KV DC on sheath with respect to ground for a duration of 60sec. Leakage current is monitored and it should be within allowed limits.

Proof Test/ Withstand test. Purpose

  • To check the healthiness of cable insulation, Joints and terminations according to IEC 62067 and IEEE400.4
  • Method: IEEE 400.4 field guide specifies Damped Alternating Current or DAC as a very effective test technique to ensure the integrity of cable insulation.
  • Total 50 DAC excitation are applied on each phase. Frequency of the DAC ranges between (20Hz to 500Hz)

Partial Discharge Measurement Purpose To check the quality/workmanship of cable insulation, Joints and Termination and to identify weak spots to repair it before energizing. Partial Discharge measurements are carried out by applying DAC voltage according to Partial Discharge measurements are carried out by applying DAC voltage according to technique and IEEE400.3

 PDIV (Partial Discharge Inception Voltage)

In general: the lower the PDIV is, the more critical the PD affected spot should be considered • For PILC: PDIV has to be monitored over time – PDIV remains constant: good sign – PDIV decreases: sign of ageing

PDEV (Partial Discharge Extinction Voltage)

Only of importance if PDIV > U0 • If PDEV < U0, then there is a high chance that the PD is always present at operating voltage
