M-Thump5 Cable Fault Location System

Adiradh offers the M-Thump5 Portable Cable Fault Location System for locating faults in low and medium voltage power cables up to 6.6 kV. Moreover, the system combines nine cable fault test methods in one portable unit. Therefore, users can identify, prelocate, and pinpoint different cable faults with one system. In addition, the M-Thump5 provides an output of up to 5 kV for cable testing and fault location. Also, its E-TRAY software guides users through each stage of the test process. Consequently, the software can set test values, read results, and suggest the next step. Furthermore, Expert Mode gives skilled users access to test values and settings. Therefore, the system supports both regular and advanced cable fault work. In addition, its light aluminium case and handles support field use. Finally, the M-Thump5 provides a combined solution for underground cable fault testing, prelocation, pinpointing, and maintenance work.

Overview

The M-Thump5 is a portable cable fault location system for low and medium voltage power cables up to 6.6 kV. Moreover, it combines nine methods for fault identification, prelocation, and pinpointing in one system. Therefore, technicians can work with high resistance, low resistance, and earth faults. In addition, the system works with single-core, multicore, armoured, and shielded cable designs. Also, it supports XLPE, EPR, PVC, and PILC insulation types.

Furthermore, the M-Thump5 uses Megger E-TRAY software to guide the fault location process. Therefore, users receive prompts during each stage of testing. In addition, the software sets test values, reads the results, and recommends the next logical step. Consequently, less experienced users need less training than with a traditional thumper-only system. Also, Expert Mode gives advanced users full control of settings. Finally, the unit can be used as a portable system or installed in a vehicle.

About Product

The M-Thump5 Cable Fault Location System integrates nine technical methods for fault identification, prelocation, and pinpointing with an output up to 5 kV. Moreover, it provides DC breakdown detection, proof testing, and insulation resistance measurement. In addition, DC fault burning supports a burn current up to 500 mA. Also, integrated TDR cable radar supports fault prelocation and phase comparison.

Furthermore, Arc Reflection Method (ARM) uses an inductive ARM filter with BestPicture Multishot. In addition, ARM Live Burning combines fault burning with arc reflection and BestPicture Multishot. Also, Impulse Current Equipment (ICE) provides current-decoupling fault prelocation. For pinpointing, the system provides surging/thumping up to 1000 J at up to 5 kV. Moreover, the voltage gradient method, also called the step voltage method, supports earth and sheath fault pinpointing. Finally, E-TRAY software brings these test methods into one user interface.

Technology & Benefits

The M-Thump5 combines several cable fault location methods with guided E-TRAY software. Moreover, the software uses simple prompts to guide users through the test process. Therefore, users do not need to manually select every test step. In addition, the system sets values and reads test results automatically. Also, it suggests the next logical step based on the test process. Consequently, cable fault location becomes easier for users with different levels of experience.

Furthermore, advanced users can select Expert Mode for full access to test settings. Therefore, the same system supports both guided and manual fault location work. In addition, its nine built-in methods reduce the need for separate fault location systems. Also, the standard E-TRAY interface is shared across Megger E-TRAY products. Consequently, users familiar with one E-TRAY system can work with other systems more easily. Finally, the safety-interlocked high-voltage start sequence supports controlled field operation.
